Most of us would like to believe we are rational creatures that make daily logical choices. However this is not always the case, even with the best of intentions.

Emotion or Cognition?

Logic or Emotion?                                                     Page 3

How much of what we do is really based on a rational decision?

Our reasoning is to a very large degree based on our perception of a given situation. We use our logic as it applies to that perception. By the same token, our emotions are often triggered by what we perceive to be happening. If we have an ‘’emotional memory” about a situation, we react to that perception by making what we believe is a logical decision, but is really an emotional decision because the decision is not based on a neutral premise. Since all of our perceptions are influenced by our own experiences, one could say most of our activities would be dictated by an emotional response.
